Chai Tea Latte Smoothie

I Love the taste for a chai latte.  Chai tea is my favorite tea, I can drink it every day and not get tired of it.  To be completely honest, I like this recipe better using the vanilla protein mix instead of the original chai latte mix from coffee houses.  This is one of my favorite smoothie recipes.  I drink it in less time that it takes to make it, which is less than 5 minutes.

The brilliance of this recipe is that you can use any type of chai flavored tea.  I like to change it up, I've made a vanilla chai, a chocolate chai and spiced chai.  Every time adding the cinnamon to the recipe, because cinnamon helps regulate blood sugars, which is super important!

One of the things I love so much about my smoothie recipe is that my smoothie has 7 grams of fiber, where the coffee houses ones have one gram or less.  My smoothie also has almost 20 grams of protein.  It's filled with loads of vitamins and minerals, and the taste is out of this world.

Ingredients

  • 8 oz pre-made chai tea
  • 1/2 cup almond milk (or coconut, soy, rice, cashew, flax or cow milk)
  • 2 scoops or 1/2 cup Vanilla Shaklee Life Energizing Shake mix (or for vegan option use Vanilla Energizing Soy Protein)
  • 1/2 cup yogurt (optional) (use vegan and dairy free like So Delicious, for a dairy free and vegan option)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 4-5 ice cubes

Directions

To prepare the tea, boil a little over 8 oz of water.  Once boiled pour over tea bag in a mug and steep for 10 - 12 minutes (or double the suggested steep time).  You can use it right away or if you do this ahead of time put the tea in the fridge until you are ready to make the smoothie.  This will cut the prep time for the smoothie down to only a few minutes.  Or you can use store bought pre-made chia tea mix, but those often have not so good for you ingredients.  Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth.  You can warm this up too, to make it truly like a chai tea latte.   Makes one serving.  Enjoy!
