Apples are Made of Mostly Water

Apples are Made of Mostly Water

This is a modern or contemporary piece.  Very simple, in design as a whole.  Yet, the focal point, the blue apple is very complex.  There is a lot of visual texture in the apple, as well as physical texture too.  The reason for the physical texture of the apple, is from the medium used.  It is oil pastel on high quality paper.  Oil pastels are like very waxy crayons.  They don’t blend very well naturally.   But, a neat blending effect can be created with the oils of the finger tips, like in my piece.  There are other materials that can be used to make a smoother blending effect.  However, with my piece I wanted it to be more thick and textural.  I know that an apple is not traditionally blue, but for some reason, when I looked at the apple I saw it as blue and being filled or made up of mainly water.  That is where my title came from.
