Autumn View

Autumn View

The second landscape I ever painted was this fall landscape titled Autumn View.  The picture I used as my reference had a lot of texture, but I felt that my painting didn’t need as much.  I painted the background hills with a smooth brush stroke, giving them a sort of wind blown feel.  I also blended them together as the hills go back, so that way you couldn’t tell where one starts and another ends.  I purposely speckled the leaves on the trees to show lots of texture.  I also was able to capture how in the fall leaves change color and change shape.  The tree trunk was very dark in the picture, but you could still see the patterns of the bark.  However, I felt it would be best if the tree trunk was a solid black shape in my painting, giving a sort of frame to the one side of the piece.  My paintings even when I attempt a more realistic feel by using real colors, tends to be whimsical in style.  A sort of not from this world landscape.  That’s just how I roll I guess.
