Volcano

Volcano

This was the first painting I painted before my surgery to remove my cancer.  I like to think that it is representational of my journey to rid my body of the tumor.  Just like how a volcano erupts and causes a big explosion to push out the heat that collects inside it.  This is what my initial surgery was like, to remove the cancer that was building up inside me.  The volcano continues its force down the mountain, and melts whatever is in it’s path with its liquid fire.   This part reminds me of the two initial complications from the surgery.  However, just as the volcano still stands tall, I too stood tall and beat the force that tried to take my life.

I used my favorite medium of oil on canvas for this piece.  The process of painting is very calming for me as I watch the canvas come alive with each new stroke of my brush.  Seeing the end result is a gift, and I hope that everyone who sees my art, sees what they need to at that moment in their lives.
